U.S. Senator Susan Collins and HUD Secretary and Obama cabinet member Julian Castro visited New Beginnings in Lewiston on Friday June 5, 2015.

Both officials had a private tour of the Emergency Youth Shelter on Main Street, followed by a tour with members of the media at the Ann Geiger Center for New Beginnings at 134 College Street in Lewiston, the new home to New Beginnings’ expanded Youth Outreach Drop-In Center for youth at risk of homelessness.  Senator Collins and Secretary Castro had opportunities to talk with youth and alumni at both the shelter and the youth center, to hear about how support from New Beginnings helped them work toward a more stable and productive life. The visit concluded with brief remarks by Senator Collins and Secretary Castro and questions from the press.
