New Beginnings Welcomes Zakk Maher as Director of Development and Community Relations

LEWISTON, Maine — New Beginnings, Inc., Maine’s leading provider of services for youth experiencing homelessness, is pleased to announce that Zakk Maher has joined the organization as Director of Development and Community Relations.

Maher will lead fundraising, operational development, and community relations, strengthening the partnerships and resources that support New Beginnings’ work with youth experiencing or at risk of homelessness across Maine.

“Unhoused youth face barriers that limit opportunities so many of us take for granted,” Maher said. “Addressing those challenges requires strong partnerships, sustainable models, and a willingness to continually innovate. I’m excited to bring my experience to New Beginnings and help expand its impact across Maine.”

Maher joins New Beginnings from the City of Auburn, where he served as Deputy Director of Business and Community Development. There, he managed federal housing and community development programs, secured $2 million for the Auburn Resource Center, and oversaw its development and construction while advancing collaboration among regional service providers, municipalities, and community partners.

“Zakk brings valuable experience building partnerships, developing resources, and bringing complex community initiatives from concept to implementation,” Chris Bicknell, Executive Director of New Beginnings. “We’re excited to have him on our team as we strengthen New Beginnings’ capacity and continue expanding opportunities for young people across Maine.”
